Bike To Work Menu
Bike Commute Challenge,
May 12 - June 15
Registration open through May 25.

It's a challenge to change your habits and give healthy commuting a try. Take it one step (or one pedal stroke) at a time by first organizing a team and committing to bike to work just one day a week. You could end up winning a great prize, and loving a new way to get to work. Click here to sign up

Get Your Team in Gear:
Need help finding a team?
  1. Ask around. There are plenty of people who live close to work or transit and just need a little encouragement to try bike commuting. Teams of co-workers are most common, but teams might also consist of friends who commute to different locations. Participants must live in or commute to a worksite in Snohomish County.
  2. Get at least 4 people. If you've got more than 10 people, form two teams and have a competition!
  3. Pick a team name. Be creative and "wheely" clever.
  4. Appoint a Team Captain. The captain's job is motivation and a little internet "paperwork." You'll register all members on-line and make sure their miles get entered each week.
  5. Dream big. Set some team goals or challenge another department or company. Help people plan their routes and gear. Plan to bike in together on Bike to Work Day or to share a snack break or lunch that day. Ask for support from your manager or your company's Wellness or Commute Trip Reduction program staff.
  6. Set a goal. Before you register your team, think of a group goal or a challenge you'd like to make to other worksites or teams such as "Everett Clinic challenges other health care teams to match our trips to work" or "Our team will bike every Friday."

Take a look at our Commuter Tips page for information on getting started on a healthy commute.

Rules & Stuff
Snohomish County Bike to School
May 1-30
Registration open through May 25

"At the store one day, an adult read my son's Bike to School t-shirt and told him that was a great thing to do and he was proud of him for riding to school." GayLynne Ullerich, Maplewood parent

Encourage your kids to take the Snohomish County Bike to School Challenge. Teams of four students or more (headed by a parent, teacher or responsible kid) register on-line to bike to school five roundtrips in May.

The kid teams with the most trips per person in each age group (elementary, middle, high school) will have their prizes awarded in person by Oxy Gene, Community Transit's superhero for clean air.Every child participant earns an Oxy Gene safety flasher. The adult team with the most trips per member earns the "Best Roll Model" award.

How children get to school is up to their parent or guardian. Many school locations and age groups are well-suited for safe cycling; some are not. Read some tips on safe biking with kids.

The Bike to School Challenge has adult and "mixed" team categories as well as elementary, middle and high school. Parents can either be part of their child's school team or take the Bike Commute Challenge (depending where you go when you ride your bike).

Challenge Resources

You can add and delete members on your Bike Commute Challenge team through May 25. The School Challenge runs May 1-30, but you can continue to add members, too, as long as there’s still time to complete the 5 roundtrips. If you get to select a t-shirt size, that means they are still available.
