Mountlake Terrace Transit Center Construction

Community Transit is constructing the new Mountlake Terrace Transit Center at the site of the old park & ride. During construction, Community Transit has made arrangements with businesses, churches and the City of Mountlake Terrace for about 390 interim parking spaces in the city's downtown.

The agency is building a four-story, five-level parking garage on the lower portion of the site. See weekly construction photos of the progress. The garage will accommodate approximately 660 cars. The upper portion of the property, near the entrance, also will be reconfigured and have about 230 parking spaces, giving the property a total capacity of about 890 parking spaces when it is complete in the first quarter of 2009. In addition, the facility will have bike lockers and large shelters.

Art students at Mountlake Terrace, Edmonds-Woodway and Scriber Lake high schools have created glass panels which will be incorporated into the new structure by professional artist Gerry Newcomb.

The center also will feature "green" construction, including recycled building materials and solar panels. A stream that currently runs through a culvert will be daylighted as part of the project. No trees in the city's Veterans Memorial Par will be removed for this project. Transit center construction is expected to last until spring 2009.

With more than double the capacity of the old facility, the new Mountlake Terrace Transit Center will make it easier than ever to "think transit first."

A Sound Transit project expected to begin late this year will connect the transit center with a new "freeway station" bus stop in the I-5 median, allowing buses easy on-off access.
