Transit Equity Day, Feb. 4

Transit Equity Day, Feb. 4

Feb 4. was chosen as Transit Equity Day to honor American civil rights activist Rosa Parks, on her birthday. Rosa Parks is best remembered for herRosa Parks on Community Transit Bus transformative role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955. Her act of resistance by refusing to give up her seat on the bus was a pivotal moment for the civil rights movement and equity in transit.

Her brave act was a historic moment that highlighted inequities in the public transit system for all to see. It also affirmed that everyone has the right to equal access to public transit.

At Community Transit, one of our Core Values is Equity and Inclusion. This means we align our policies, practices and resources so everyone has genuine opportunities to fully participate and thrive.

It is still our Mission to help people get from where they are to where they want to be, and our values affirm that we do so equitably to improve access to transportation and strengthen connections in the communities we serve.
