Community Transit is updating its guidance to people riding our transit services to say that masks are recommended on buses and indoors at transit facilities. When the federal mask mandate ended in mid-April, Community Transit had advised riders that masks were optional.

The change in message comes as both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Snohomish Health District have recommended that masks be worn indoors and on public transit to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

The Snohomish Health District also recommends that:

• all people continue to wear masks in high-risk settings, such as crowded locations where ventilation is poor and/or distancing is not possible
• people whose vaccination status is not up-to-date or who are immunocompromised continue to wear them in public indoor and crowded outdoor settings
• people remain vigilant and flexible for future times when it may become advisable to resume universal use to protect ourselves, others, the healthcare system and other essential societal functions.

Community Transit does not require masks on its buses or transit facilities. Single-use masks are available to riders on all buses.
