What is the Bus Stop Program?
Community Transit is committed to improving the experience for our customers while they wait. Riders have access to over 1,700 bus stops in Snohomish and King counties, with more being added.
Our Bus Stop Program focuses on upgrading bus stops for our riders. This might include improvement of shelters, seating, and pathways and platforms for accessibility.
What is the process for improving bus stops?
To bring improved bus stops to our riders, we follow one of two general processes:
A: Improve via partnership
When a city, county, or other partner is already doing construction or improvement work near a bus stop we may advise on the design, helping to reduce costs and minimize disruptions.
B: Community Transit-led bus stop improvement projects
- Identify needs and set priorities
Community Transit regularly reviews bus stops to identify where improvements may be needed. We consider ridership data, accessibility, safety, stop spacing, site conditions, customer feedback, partner agency input, and the needs of riders who may depend on transit the most - Coordinate with partner agencies and stakeholders
We work with partner agency staff and stakeholders to discuss proposed improvements and align on plans and requirements, and any necessary communications. - Design the bus stops
We develop stop designs to minimize property impacts, manage project costs, and meet customer needs. When necessary, we work with property owners to keep them informed of the stop design. - Build the improvements
We complete construction and upgrade the bus stops, keeping property owners and bus riders informed of the status.
