Mask requirement on transit extended through January 2022

Aug 19, 2021, 16:56 by Evan Ebert

Passengers on Community Transit buses will be required to wear masks until Jan. 18, 2022, based on an extension of a federal rule.

The Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) current mandate was set to expire Sept. 13, before yesterday’s announced extension. The rule applies to employees and passengers on public transportation and airlines.

The rule is intended to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Community Transit lifted social distancing requirements on its buses earlier this summer. In addition to requiring that riders wear face masks, the agency continues to disinfect its buses every night and has upgraded its air filters to help ensure a safe ride.

Bus drivers are required to wear masks whenever a passenger is on board.
